intransitive "making"

I just asked at another dinner about "the coffee is making" and a Houstonian
told me that he's used "make" this way for years.  He agreed with me that
he'd only use this for coffee in a coffee maker.  If it were in a
percolator, he'd say "it's percolating" or some such.
