airport codes

I'm not sure whether subsequent posters are quite understanding the
original query. In Portland, it's common to hear the airport's code PDX
used as a nickname for the city itself--i.e., it isn't just an airport
anymore. I think Portland State University uses "pdx.edu" as its e-mail
address (presumably because somebody else got "psu.edu" first). To my
knowledge, RDU is still used as a name for the airport only, not for any of
the cities it serves or all of them collectively.
