GLADIATOR & HERCULES (sword & sandal, toga & tunic)

Steve Reeves, famous from his title role in the 1959 film HERCULES, died
at age 74. THE NEW YORK TIMES, 5 May 2000, pg. A24, col.4, says that this
"ushered in a cycle of sword-and-sandal epics."
GLADIATOR opened today. The NEW YORK POST film review calls it a
"sword-and-sandal" epic.
THE NEW YORK OBSERVER, 8 May 2000, pg. 21, col. 1, "At the Movies" with
Andrew Sarris, talks about GLADIATOR in the context of "the long dormant
toga-and-tunic superproduction genre that seemingly faded into oblivion."

MISC.

"Pocky" was at all of the many convenience stores in Japan, and I saw some
Pocky-knockoffs, but I didn't think the product/idea was that old. Can it
really be the same thing as those "Japanese Pretzels" of about 1950? I'll
have to re-check the recipe in that book.
It was another humiliating week of rejection in New York City!! I
approached yet another person at the New York Times about this plagiarism
thing, this person said she spoke for the Times and would listen, I told her
everything, and then it's "Oh boy..." and no response. Then I went to the
"Public Advocate"--who gives you the Green Book addresses of people who
already didn't listen to you! Nice job! Man, am I glad when I leave this
place!
"The 'Love Bug' is a moth, Rege! That's my final answer!!"
