The _Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English_ c. 1995 in England, has
only turmeric. _Webster's Third New International D._, c. 1986 shows
tumeric to be a variant of turmeric. The _Random House D. of the English
Language_, c. 1967, has only turmeric.
I believe that this is a misspelling that is becoming acceptable, much
like the word, 'comptroller.'
My spice shelf holds curry powder, of which, an integral ingredient is
turmeric. Also in that cupboard is pure turmeric.
