Folk etymology

[David Bergdahl]

I've only known "86" as "the item is on the menu but we're out of it";
where does "kill" enter in?  (Is it similar to "88"?  In radio code "88"
was "love'n'kisses" and there were others which I forget ... anybody
have an AARL hnadbook?)
