Friday foolishness: foreign words

This question doesn't involve words on signs, but I've been puzzled by it
for years, so I'll ask you folks:

In Japan in about 1991/2, I was driving to a ryokan located off of a
mountain road.  There was a sign that looked like a man jumping up and down.
Both feet appeared to be off the ground, and there were little "movement"
slashes by his hands and feet.

Anybody know?
