Remember that, with the exception of the companion breeds, Shih-Tzus,
Poodles, etc, dogs were primarily bred for work...hunting and herding
mostly.

Now as for 'sick as a dog', I'm tempted to suggest that it comes from a Tad
Dorgan cartoon, but that would only cause trouble....
