   OED has 1937 for "doodle," but doesn't record this form.
   From Clementine Paddleford in the NEW YORK HERALD TRIBUNE, 2 October 1939, pg. 16, col. 8:

   CIRCLE IN RED--Reach for a pencil (red one preferred); look for the calendar.  Around Wednesday, the day after tomorrow, put a fine, large circle, or a big red star, or your favorite "doo diddle," that character you draw when waiting for central to connect you with PEnnsylvania 6-4000.  Anyhow, mark Wednesday! (...)
