gill (verb) = laugh

First thought is that it must be linked to the slang _gills_, the jaws, and
thus the face in general, and such phrases as _green about the gills_.
Alternatively there is the 18C 'gill, to flirt, to tease' but this comes
from _gill-flirt_, a female flirt and ultimate _gill_, a woman, itself from
the proper name Gill. That said, there does seem to be a degree of teasing
in the baseball quotation. On the other hand, this may be pure coincidence.
