From the Sunday NEW YORK POST, 12 August 2001, "City Life: Why going around with the top down is a breast bet for some," pg. 49, col. 2:

Despite the court's topless ruling--advocates prefer the term "topfree," saying it has less of a sexual connotation--you won't find many women here exercising their rights.
   (...)(Col. 3--ed.)
Topless sunbathing does occur in the city, but it's largely the province of individual naturists, a.k.a. "nudists."

(A Google checks shows 467,000 "topless" and 2,670 "topfree." I usually associate "-less" with clothing and "-free" with food...FWIW: It's shocking that this filler wasn't a Page One story in the NEW YORK POST. The POST's Australian influence was profiled in the current NEW YORK OBSERVER. The POST has been sleazy for a long time, but--well, Victoria Gotti was given a column. This is a newspaper that couldn't possibly print the NYC origin of baseball--ed.)
