Revisiting an earlier thread:

On today's (29 Dec 01) ABC network evening newscast, I heard Paul
Goldberger, the architecture critic of the NY Times, refer to the WTC site
as 'hollowed ground'.

I use the cat vowel. He used what I regard as the a-in-father vowel.
