Of borderline relevance to the recent discussion of adjectives and
adverbs: In the nineteenth-century letters I've been going through
(for a SECOL paper) -- the letters that produced sherpt -- I've
noticed a sort of formulaic part near the beginning in many of them
of something like "I am well and doing well" or "I hope this letter
finds you well and doing well."
