Just as a preliminary aside, it hasn't been the "MTA" (Metropolitan Transit
Authority) for 40+ years; it's the "MBTA" now (Massachusetts Bay
Transportation Authority), usually referred to simply as the "T."

The T has four basic vehicles for transporting people:

(1) buses, which stop at bus stops;
(2) streetcars [a/k/a trolleys], which stop, when underground, at "T
stations" or "subway stations";
(3) (formerly elevated) trains, which stop at "T stations" or "subway
stations"; and
(4) commuter trains, which stop at "train stations" or "railroad stations."
