Hmmmm. Yes, I think I too see a fine difference between the two, but I'm
not sure I agree with you on what that difference is.

I would say, "I'm fixin' to go down town," meaning that I am getting
ready to or firmly planning to. But if I'm "lookin' to change your mind,"
that would mean to me that I am intending to try, but that there is an
element of uncertainty regarding the result.
