garbage vs. trash

What Bob says below is what I learned in 1962 when I came to the U.S.
and lived in Boston. I found the same distinction observed in a Canadian
college residence the other day. They have two bins, one for "wet" stuff
and another for "dry" stuff. The dry stuff is recyclable, at least most
of it, I suppose, but the wet stuff is composted.
