This story in today's New York Observer:

http://www.observer.com/pages/world.asp

"In 1992, a brown-eyed whiz kid from New York named Michael Hauben coined the term
'netizen' to describe particularly conscientious members of the global e-village."

And this, also about Hauben:

http://www.firstmonday.dk/issues/issue3_7/chapter2/

"Through his pioneering interactive online research, Michael coined the term
'Netizen' into popular use.

Now, I don't know how you "coin into popular use" but is there any substantiation
for Hauben's claim for creating this word? Or popularizing it? His page at
http://www.columbia.edu/~hauben/text/WhatIsNetizen.html supports his claims, but what I'm looking
is independent verification. Hauben recently committed suicide so he can no longer
be consulted.
