I first noticed this about 15 years ago. It's one of those words that I
associate with a specific person, a grad student at the University of
Florida. He was born and raised in Florida, and has lived there most of his
life (after occasional detours to Washington DC and France). I can date
this fairly well, as I left Florida in January of 1988. (This student was
most definitely *not* the sort who would pick up things from "youth
culture".)
