George Thompson told me about this some weeks ago.
I told Bill Gallo of the New York Daily News, and I also asked that he correct "hot dog." You know how that came out.
I immediately told Gersh Kuntzman, who writes a column for the New York Post and an internet column for Newsweek (www.gershtv.com, gershny at yahoo.com). He told me that baseball's origins in NYC wasn't news.
I told him that it WAS news, and that SABR wouldn't publish it otherwise. I recently e-mailed him with this ADS-L message, but I've heard no reply.
A check on the Dow Jones database shows no relevant hits for George Thompson and baseball. ZERO.
  Maybe try the Associated Press?
Must the origins of our national pastime be kept secret??
FWIW, the local NYC news last night gave big play to a reporter being backstage at the concert of a boy band. The local NYC newspapers gave big play (again) to the mayor's sex life.
