   Would anyone know the meaning of "plug cut" in the quote below? It
appears in a baseball article in the newspaper _San Francisco
Bulletin_, March 15, 1913, p.28, col. 1:
  "On the field the professional ball tosser is usually an individual
of athletic build, with flashing eyes and an aggressiveness not to be
found among his fellow citizens.  He is also supposed to wear a coat
of tan and to be an habitual user of plug cut. ..."
