>From my two previous posts, note that by 1823 there were two different spellings in English: "guerilla" and "guerrilla".  The latter is athe only correct spelling in Spanish, in which the single-r and double-r are separate phonemes (the double-r is strongly trilled, the single-r sounds almost like /d/.  Also a single r at the beginning of a word is the trilled r.)
