And coincidentally, the second sentence of the article provides evidence of
the damaged subjunctive gene which some of us have observed and reported in
earlier exchanges on this list, viz.:

"Scientists think they have found the first of many genes that gave humans
speech.

"Without it, language and human culture may never have developed."

(Insert sounds of Tarzan's adoptive relatives here.)
