Tar Heel (24 July 1864)

   I can't find my "Tar Heel" post in the old ADS-L archive.  It was also a citation from 1864.
   OED had 9 December 1864 for "Tar Heel."  The next volume of DARE has--what _does_ it have?
   The NEW YORK TIMES, 24 July 1864, pg. 6, has an article, "Life and Manners in the Old North State."  The story is from the Mobile TRIBUNE.  One of the sub-heads reads "Peculiarities of Tar Heels."
   There is a discussion of the local cuisine of "gouber peas and cold sweet potatoes."  Also mentioned are "corn coffee, ditto bread, cowpeas..."  Corn coffee?  Ditto bread?
