Sociolinguistics job at MSU

The Department of Linguistics and Germanic, Slavic, Asian and African
Languages at Michigan State University will make a fixed-term
replacement appointment in sociolinguistics at the rank of Assistant
Professor to begin on or after August 15, 2002 and ending May 15,
2003. We seek a candidate with a record of publication and
presentations and a strong theoretical background who can interact
with faculty and students engaged in research programs in which
language variation and other areas of mainstream linguistic research
are combined. Specific duties will include teaching 1) an
introductory sociolinguistics course at the advanced undergraduate -
beginning graduate level, 2 ) a large undergraduate TA-supported
course in language in culture and society, 3) an advanced seminar in
sociolinguistics, and 4) two sections of introductory general
linguistics. Although the specific area of research specialization is
open, we require expertise in quantitative methods in the study of
language variation and change. PhD by time of appointment.
