"kid" vs. "child"

A teacher I had in grade school also (1940s) -- she also objected on philological grounds to any kid saying that he was going to beat up another kid, since only eggs were to be beaten up.  She drew a picture of an egg-beater on the blackboard to illustrate the point.

She probably wouldn't have objected to a kid saying that he was going to whack the bejeesus out of another kid, though I don't believe the situation ever arose.
