*Novus ordo seclorum* does mean "The new order of the ages."  I assume it
refers to the new democracy.

*Annuit coeptis* means "He [God] has looked with favor upon our [America's]
beginning." Said to be adapted from a passage in Vergil's *Aeneid*.

I don't know about the pictorial symbols; I'm sure there's some Web site
where they're explained.
