So, where did this phrase come from? Does it predate the Simpsons? The Simpsons usually just mirror things that existed. In a current thread over at the Straight Dope a poster just said that her Catholic father knew it from the 1940's or 50's. I'm skeptical. Any help here? She suggested it was Southern.
