FAR 91.17(a) reads "No person may act or attempt to act as a crewmember of a
civil aircraft---
(1) Within 8 hours after the consumption of any alcoholic beverage;"

The Feds are careful to protect you not only against intoxicated pilots but
against druniken flight attendants as well!

There is an interesting double-entendre in 91.17(a): "attempt to act".
