I got a request for "urban pioneer."
The first NEW YORK TIMES hit is a book review on 25 July 1953, pg. 9, "...the harassed urban pioneers of our own day." This might be mentioned in the book THE CITY by Julius Horowitz.
The second NEW YORK TIMES hit is 5 January 1967, pg. 24, discussing the Department of Housing and Urban Development's Urban Pioneer Medal.
JSTOR has a paper by Alfred H. Meyer containing "Difficulties in defining urban pioneer communities" of Illinois in 1830-1850, in ANNALS OF THE ASSOCIATION OF AMERICAN GEOGRAPHERS, June 1951, pg. 172. The next JSTOR hit for "urban pioneer" is a 1980s article by Fred Shapiro in AMERICAN SPEECH.
What follows below are OCLC WORLDCAT hits, then PROQUEST hits.
