"Suffering doughnuts!" "Suffering pickles!"

    Barry Popik once spotted a 1924 example of "Suffering doughnuts!"
and one of "Great suffering doughnuts!"  See the ADS-L Archives for
the discussion about this use of "doughnut." Note too Sylvester the
Cat's frequent exclamation "Suffering succotash!"

    Today I just noticed "Suffering pickles!" -- _The Bulletin_ (San Francisco),
Sept. 6, 1913, p. 10, cols. 5-6; article title: "Score of Yesterday's
Coast League Games." The brief item begins: "Suffering pickles, what
a game! Ducks, 10; Oaks, 0.  The Oregonians handled last year'[s]
champions like they were so many bushers.  Killilay and Pernoll were
both batted until their heads ached.
