SNICKER DOODLE

More on "snicker doodle," for the interest of the next DARE and any others. I don't exactly know what the first citation refers to.

  Display Ad 13 -- No Title; The Washington Post (1877-1954), Washington, D.C.; Feb 28, 1929; pg. 10, 1 pgs

  Display Ad 8 -- No Title; The Washington Post (1877-1954), Washington, D.C.; Mar 8, 1928; pg. 5, 1 pgs
("Snicker Doodle" recipe in Krisco ad--ed.)

  Other 1 -- No Title; The Washington Post (1877-1954), Washington, D.C.; Dec 2, 1902; pg. 6, 1 pgs
("The progessive snicker doodles party is now the swell thing at Hoboken. You may search us.")

HAYFIELD DRINK

DARE has 1953 and 1967 for "hayfield drink." It's also known as "haying water" and "switchel." This is the only early citation.

THE COLLEGE GIRL WITH THE HOE; New York Times (1857-Current file), New York, N.Y.; Mar 31, 1918; pg. 26, 1 pgs
("Riding a horse to pasture would come under the head of light farming; also,...putting up the hired man's luncheon and mixing his hayfield drink.")
