   Greetings again from Paramaribo, Suriname.  If tomorrow's Tuesday, it must be French Guiana.  I'll visit Devil's Island, but unfortunately Dustin Hoffman and Steve McQueen (PAPILLON) have left.
   The food and the women here are terrible and I only wish I could be back in New York City adjudicating parking tickets.

   The author of this work also wrote BIGISMA TAKI...DUTCH VERSION OF 2500 SURINAMESE PROVERBS AND SAYINGS.  Of possible Fred Shapiro use.
   Most of the proverbs appear to be from Suriname.  There is a two-page bibliography.  The proverbs are given without sources, however.  Here's an example:

Traditional Creole dishes are: _heri-heri_, a dish with tubers and plantains with smoked or salted fish; the much heralded _BB with R_, brown beans with rice and meat; _pom_, a baked dish with grated tayer root, chicken, and spices; _pastei_, a pastry filled with chicken, eggs, carrots, and sweet peas and _pinda brafu_, a peanut soup with chicken and spices.  Many dishes have salted meat or _bakkeljauw_ (salted hake) in them--a tasty legacy from the refrigerator-less era.
