The ProQuest LOS ANGELES TIMES appears to now be complete to December 31, 1950.
PUCK is here on the American Periodical Series Online! Keep in mind that it is 1877-1918. (I'd found "windy city" in 1876.) No "hot dog" and "red hot" and "tenderloin" worth recording, as far as I can see.

ROCK AND ROLL

More citations to consider. It appears to be well known by the late 1940s.

FRANK FINCH. Los Angeles Times (1886-Current File). Los Angeles, Calif.: Oct 20, 1949. p. C3 (1 page) :
And it will come as a bit of a shock if the 190-pound Packer vet fails to rock and roll when Green Bay faces the unbeaten local team Sunday afternoon at the Coliseum.

WINDY CITY

PUCK has an 1878 "windy city," from Cincinnati (as we've known for some time now).
The Chicago Public Library still tells the 1893 World's Fair myth and is still "thinking."

THE CREAM OF THE BUCKET.
Puck (1877-1918). New York: Jun 19, 1878. Vol. 3, Iss. 67; p. 13 (2 pages):
(First page, second column--ed.)
A CHICAGO paper tells of the light weight which bakers in that city give to bread, and speaks significantly of a way they have in Turkey of nailing the ear of a baker ti his doorpost when he is discovered to have sold bread of short weight. Such an usage would be wholly impracticable in the windy city. Cover up a whole block with a Chicago man's ear?--_Cinc. Sat. Night_.
