Here is a more 'plausible' Irish candidate phrase. My dictionary shows "caidhp bháis" (again literally "cap of death") with the meaning "deathcap [toadstool]". Pronunciation should be close to "kye-bosh". Still I don't see any reason to accept this as etymologically related to the English word. -- Doug Wilson
