Must've been written by someone who used to "party hardy" [sic] twenty years ago.

Hardily? Yoohoo? What is Newsweek on these days? Actually, I guess
"hardily" as a blend of "heartily" and "hardly" could be a nice
Freudianly-slippery adverb here.
