   Two Japanese food terms.


   I had posted 1960,  M-W has 1961 and OED has 1963.
   The 1950s LOS ANGELES TIMES probably has "dashi," BUT WE WILL NEVER KNOW.

Second page:  it is composed of soy sauce heated with dashi (a kind of stock made from dried bonito), sugar and monosodium glutamate, the vegetable protein seasoning sold here under such trade names as Accent and known in Japan as aji-no-moto.

   OED ("miserable on food") does not have an entry for "daikon."  There are 62,900 Google hits.

Pg. 532:  Many of these were introduced by the Dutch, and some by Com. perry.  The _daikon_, an enormous radish, often 30 in. long and 4 thick, is a staple article of food in both the fresh and pickled state.  The food of the people is mainly vegetables and fish.
