Antedating of "stove up" 1864

Alright.  I'll admit it.  It's an ego thing.  I enjoy posting antedates.  So
much so, that I don't do the slow, plodding, professional work that one
should.  So, another minute finds--
8 Jan. 1864   _Portland(OR) Oregonian_ 2/1

<<We are gone in, stove up, smashed, played out, used up, catawampused--in
fact, whipped.  Like old mother Earth, we are flattened at the polls.">>

That last was a reference by the writer to the "democratic party."
