LA Times, Chicago Tribune digitization by ProQuest

The LA Times seems to have halted completely and the Chicago Tribune doesn't go before 1890, so I asked ProQuest about the digitization progress.

2005 seems late. I was hoping that both would be done by the end of December 2004.

Hello, Barry,

Quick updates: The LA Times isn't exactly stuck (we had planned on
finishing the year with 1960 so we're way ahead of schedule); but we
have shifted to digitizing the Chicago Tribune more heavily through the
rest of this year. LA Times digitization will continue but at a slower
pace through the rest of 2004.

The pre-1890 Chicago Tribune is being refilmed directly from hardcopy
archives held at various repositories. Once filmed, we'll digitize
those years.

Both papers will be completely digited through 1984 (ASCII for both
starts at 1985) in 2005 (probably by July/August).

Hope this information helps. Happy hunting!

Chris
