"ity" as [Iti] in American English

I'm looking for any information (socio-cultural variables associated with, history of, etc.) members of the ADS-L may have on the realization in some varieties of American English of the "t" in "-ity" segments as a distinct [t] rather than a "flap." I've heard this from African-American speakers but have never seen it mentioned in print.

Thanks very much for your help.
