"The Bronx" was discussed recently on Gothamist. I've heard this discussed for many years, but am too lazy to track it all down. Yes, it is from Bronck--also the name of a river.

COMPLETELY OFF TOPIC: WHERE DID BARRY POPIK EAT?--Pete's Tavern, on Irving Place and 18th Street. OK for food. O. Henry wrote "Gift of the Magi" here, according to the place. The back of the menu states that it began in the 1850s as a "grocery and grub," or "liquor store." I couldn't find "grocery and grub" anywhere.
WEDNESDAY--Emilio's on Park Avenue South, at 18th Street. Great little Italian place, but there's a wait.
TUESDAY--Teng's, Third Avenue and 20th Street. Just your average Chinese place, but look at the menu. Almost nothing is more than $10. I had tofu and mushrooms--$6.75! Take that, Donatella!

OAKLAND TRIBUNE--I've been looking at this, but nothing exciting for "Trader Vic's." No "slam dunk," either.

DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME--There are TWO new books on DST! TWO!
...
SEIZE THE DAYLIGHT by David Prerau
SPRING FORWARD by Michael Downing
...
I looked fo "spring forward, fall back," but didn't find an early example in either book. Maybe I skipped over it. Is it on Amazon's "Inside the book"?
