"novel"= "epic poem"

One pities the fool who still thinks that a "novel" must be written in prose. Poetry is good too, as long as it's book-length.

>From an Amazon.com review of Ovid's _Metamorphoses_ in 1998 :

"Sex, violence, and great story-telling. What more could one ask of a novel? We often forget that the world of Roman society was not all that different in terms of human nature than Western society today..."

Yabbut, what if a _prose_ translation is being described ? Then everything's all right, right ?

Dream on.
