"dinosaur rock" = plodding hard rock/heavy metal, associated with
older guitar-driven bands of the '60s and '70s

1976 _Sounds_ 9 Oct. (rocksbackpages.com) In a word, it's
dinosaur-rock, a non-stop barrage of riffs and cliches that have been
floating around for the last 15 years.

1977 _Los Angeles Times_ 18 May IV11/1 Corky Laing might be expected
to trot out some dinosaur-rock of the most painful, ponderous variety.

1978 _Sounds_ 2 Sep. (rocksbackpages.com) The new album's 'Godzilla',
dinosaur rock over a basic 'Wild Thing'-type line plus screeching
triple guitar bashes, a drum solo of the simplistic thump variety (the
elaborate stuff comes next, accompanied by some quite spectacular use
of lasers and mirrorballs), screams and oinks.

1978 _Los Angeles Times_ 15 Nov. IV16/1 (heading) The dinosaur rock of
Jethro Tull.
