>OED lacks these words despite the existence of about 175,000 Googits.

So does the search feature of ProQuest Historical Newspapers, which is kinda surprising.

The earliest citations I can find have to do with Stephen King's novel _Firestarte_ (which was nominally released 9/1/1980, but shows up on Best Seller lists before that). Both words appear in that novel.

"Stephen King strikes again" Bill Granger Chicago Tribune; Aug 24, 1980; pg. E3 col 3.

"Eventually the Shop gets wind of the changes in Charlie and sets out to find her and imprisons her for further experiments, to see if her pyrokinesis can be harnessed as a new weapon in the arsenal of the nation."
