effort, v.

Only once in human history, OED seems to say, has "effort" been used a verb. AIn English, anyway. And then it meant to strengthen or fortify.

But all that seems to be changing, word-lovers.  _Fox News Live_, today about 1:30 p.m.:

"Firefrighters are now efforting to put out that fire."

Yes, "making an effort; trying."
