villages

I grew up in an incorporated village on Long Island named Valley
Stream (a real estate coinage--before it was Rum Junction) with a
population of 36,000 nowadays, a bedroom community 17 miles from the
city, served by the LIRR, Sunrise Hwy, Merrick Rd & the Southern Shore
Pkwy. There are lots of villages, which are administratively grouped
into towns (we were in the Town of Hempstead); the county of Nassau is
the largest administrative unit.

I think there's a mythical village which Sen. Clinton wants to evoke
of a pre-industrial unit but the one I grew up in doesn't fit that
bill--we were just a suburban LI village!
