That's what I thought too (and related to "knock v.", as I wrote
earlier), but I only had access to OED2 at the time.  Jon Lighter
noted that OED3 has "nock n.1" in this sense from the same era as my
"knock", and Jesse has directed me to submit my find as an instance of "nock".
