With all due respect, I wonder how much traction there really is at this
point. At a glance, the Google hits seem to consist largely of citations and
other references to Pipes's article(s) rather than any other invocation of
the phrase.

"Sudden Jihad Syndrome" has gained traction after the Seattle murder.
Daniel
Pipes coined the term March 14, 2006 after events in North Carolina.
...
"Sudden Jihad Syndrome" occurs when an individual follower of Islam (not
necessary Al-Qaeda or a member of any other terrorist group) feels a sudden
individual need to kill Jews. The term possibly may also apply to the Mel
Gibson

incident on March 3 at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill
suggests I
did not go far enough.
That was when a just-graduated student named Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar, 22,
and an Iranian immigrant, drove a sport utility vehicle into a crowded
pedestrian zone. He struck nine people but, fortunately, none were severely
injured.
