Private Sector

Last week I saw a different use of "private sector," to denote individuals
(and perhaps non-profits) as opposed to corporations. It was in the
description of an art installation called "Kitchen Dreams" by Ricky
Bernstein, currently on display at the Boston Convention & Exhibition
Center. I didn't write down the exact quote, but it went something like,

"Bernstein has received commissions from the private sector as well as from
corporate donors."

I don't know if this usage is widespread in the art world.
