Tomorrow, Saturday 12 August, is a special day for World Wide Words, so
perhaps you may forgive me for shouting my wares in this forum for once?

Tomorrow's is the 500th issue of the World Wide Words newsletter. It also
marks ten years of trying to get across the oddities and extravagances of
English to an international audience, an effort that at times seems to
have taken over my life.

The result, however, has been to create a widely-used resource. The
newsletter has 26,000+ subscribers by e-mail and another 15,000+ via RSS.
The success of the Web site has been even greater. Each month, it gets
1,700,000+ page hits from more than 750,000 individual visitors.

You may like to take a look at this week's issue. You will find it online
at http://www.worldwidewords.org/nl/xtjk.htm

By coincidence, the day after the 500th issue goes out my wife and I
celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. It's going to be a busy weekend,
celebration-wise.
