"Push-in" robbery (1976)

I was watching an episode of "Law & Order" on TNT, and the elderly  victim
was seemingly killed in a "push-in" robbery. It later developed that  she'd
survived the holocaust and had identified (for a "Shoah" project) a  Nazi guard
who'd committed six murders. The videotape of her moving testimony  was played
at the end of the show.

The revised OED does not have "push-in." (?) The robbery term appears to
have been coined in 1970s New York City.

robbers  often
use. From the home-owner's point of view, a home invasion must be  assumed.

The Senior Citizens Robbery Unit is assigned all cases involving indoor
robberies of Bronx victims over the age of 60. Many of these crimes are the
so-called "push-in" jobs that occur when a robber or group of robbers waits in a
hallway for a victim to come home, and then pushed him or her into the
apartment.
