communism (OED 1843)

1840 _New-York Spectator_ 22 Aug. (19th Century U.S. Newspapers)  A man
named Dufraisse, some thirty years of age, advanced to the tomb, with a
paper in his hand, and began to read a strange discourse; in which, after
a sort of eulogy upon Carrel, he brutally attacked his successors, the
present editors of the _National_, and concluded with an exposition of the
doctrines of _Communism_.* ... * Much the same as what Mr. Owen preaches
in England, under the name of _Socialism_.
